FRAUD PREVENTION TIPS

Strathcona County, Alta. – Fraud Prevention Month is an annual public awareness campaign held in March that works to prevent Canadians from becoming victims of fraud by helping them "Recognize it. Report it. Stop it."

Thousands of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life are defrauded each year.  There is no typical fraud victim in Canada. Fraud targets Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life and recognizing fraud is the first step to better protecting yourself.

March is Fraud Prevention Month

Strathcona County, Alta. - March is Fraud Prevention month and although there is numerous scams and frauds circulating, the Strathcona County RCMP warns that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Scam is still the most prevalent.

This scam involves receiving phone calls or emails from individuals impersonating CRA employees. Fraudsters are either phishing for your identification or asking that outstanding taxes be paid by itunes cards or by pre-paid debit/credit cards. There are two variations:

Strathcona County RCMP Seek Public Assistance to Locate 30-Year-Old Male

Strathcona County, Atla. – The Strathcona County RCMP are requesting public assistance to locate 30-year-old Trevor Hans Wallwork who was reported missing on Feb. 14, 2019.

Trevor was last seen at his residence in Strathcona County, Alta. on Feb. 2, 2019. The RCMP, along with his family wish to verify his well-being.

Trevor is described as:

  • caucasian
  • 180 pounds
  • 5’9” tall
  • Blue eyes
  • Light brown hair
  • Beard

 

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Uttering Threats and Theft

Strathcona County, Alta. – The Strathcona County RCMP are investigating an incident that occurred on Jan. 1, 2019 at the Super Value Liquor store in Sherwood Park. Public assistance is being sought in identifying the suspect responsible.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. a male entered the liquor store and attempted to purchase a case of beer. When the males card was declined he began to threaten the clerk, damaged a gate inside the store and stole the beer.

The clerk working at the time of the incident was not injured.

Strathcona County RCMP Seek Assistance in Locating Elderly Male With Dementia

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP are asking for public assistance to locate 74-year-old Robert Marcel Verschaeve, who was last seen in Sherwood Park this afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m. He left from his rural residence near Range Road 232 and Township Road 520 in Sherwood Park, Alta.

Robert is suffering from dementia and may be unaware of his surroundings. He was last known to be driving his 2011 white Ford F150 with Alberta licence plate BZX5010. The truck has a water tank in the back and has front end damage.

Strathcona County RCMP Search Warrant Leads to Drug Seizure and Arrests

Strathcona County, Alta - Strathcona County Municipal Drug Unit began investigating a drug complaint at the beginning of January. As a result, on Jan.11, 2019 a search warrant was executed at a residence located in the northwest area of Edmonton, Alta. The warrant was executed with the assistance of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) and additional members from Fort Saskatchewan and Morinville RCMP Detachments.
