Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Recent Sextortion Scams

Strathcona County, Alta. – On June 18, 2020 at approximately 11:15 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a collision involving a truck and a semi-tractor on Highway 216 southbound near the Sherwood Park Freeway exit.
Preliminary investigation revealed the truck was reversing on the right shoulder of the Highway when it struck the passenger side of the semi-tractor carrying diesel fuel. The semi-trailer caught fire, crossing all southbound lanes into the meridian.
Both drivers were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Strathcona County, Alta. – RCMP have cleared one lane of traffic southbound and northbound on Highway 216.
Expect delays for several more hours.
Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP are currently on scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway 216 southbound between a pickup truck and semi-truck.
Traffic is being re-routed southbound at Baseline Road and northbound at Wye Road until further notice.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area or expect delays.

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP are currently investigating two Bitcoin scams. In both instances the fraudsters contacted the victims by phone claiming to be a police officer and demanded they deposit money into a Bitcoin machine.
Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County detachment has been selected to be a part of phase two of the Alberta RCMP’s online crime reporting pilot program beginning June 8, 2020. The online crime reporting tool will allow residents of Strathcona County detachment area to report select crimes online and all reports will be followed up with by a phone call from a police officer within five business days. This project has been initiated to ensure the public is able to report certain crime types in whatever way is most convenient or accessible to them.
Strathcona County, Alta. - Strathcona County RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following crime:
Sometime between May 16, 2020 and May 17, 2020 suspect(s) gained entry into Fultonvale School located near Township Road 520 and Range Road 224 by smashing multiple windows. Police have determined approximately 30 windows were smashed around the perimeter of the school. A damaged chrome book was located outside the school but does not appear that anything else was taken from inside the school.
Sherwood Park, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP warn residents that online scams are more prevalent than ever before and increased vigilance is necessary as scammers continue to find creative ways to victimize trusting people.
Strathcona County, Alta. – On May 4, 2020, at 6:14 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a 911 call of a male with a firearm at a residence on Range Road 222. To protect the public, the area was contained, traffic was diverted and nearby residences were evacuated. When Strathcona RCMP, including the Emergency Response Team, made entry onto the subject’s property, three people and one dog were located, deceased.
Strathcona County, Alta. – RCMP advise the situation near Township Road 520 between Range Road 221 and Range Road 222 is over and all roads have been cleared for motorists.
RCMP are still on scene and will be continuing their investigation. There is no concern for the public in the area.
