Strathcona County RCMP Warn Public of Timeshare Scam

Strathcona County, Alta. - Strathcona County RCMP are currently investigating a scam involving the sale of a timeshare and want to warn others about this elaborate scheme.

Many timeshare scams involve a person who will pose as a reseller or real estate agent who will claim they are interested or have a buyer for the timeshare. They will go to great lengths to appear legitimate and credible. They will use names, addresses and phone numbers of reputable business, create elaborate websites and official looking documents.

Strathcona County RCMP Municipal Drug Unit Make Arrests for Drug Trafficking

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP Municipal Drug Unit (SCMDU) conducted an investigation into drug trafficking activities in Sherwood Park and Edmonton, Alta., over the past several months. As a result of the investigation, evidence was obtained that led to the arrest of five individuals and they are expected to face numerous charges including: trafficking a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, and possession of proceeds of crime.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male Youth for Firearm Offences

Strathcona County, Alta - On October 20, 2022 at 3:15 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP received a 911 call of a male pointing what was believed to be a gun at motorists at the intersection of Main Street and Sherwood Drive in Sherwood Park, Alta.

Police arrived on scene and located the male matching the description provided by the complainant. The male was arrested without further incident and the alleged firearm was located. Police have determined that the gun was not real and was an imitation firearm.

Strathcona County RCMP Warn the Public About the Grandparent's Scam

Strathcona County, Alta. – The Strathcona County RCMP wishes to warn the public of what is known as the grandparent’s scam. In 2022, the detachment has received 13 reports of the scam where suspects called the victim and indicated that their grandson or granddaughter was in jail and needed $6,000 or more in bail money. The suspects would then send a “courier” to pick up the cash or ask the victim to send money to an account.

Strathcona County RCMP Respond to Fatal Collision

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP and RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred on Highway 16 near Range Road 223 in Sherwood Park, Alta. on Aug. 30, 2022, at 11:38 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates a Ford Focus was travelling eastbound in the westbound lane on Highway 16 when it collided head on with a BMW.

The 72-year-old male driver of the Ford Focus and 66-year-old back seat passenger in the BMW were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Arson in New Residential Development – update #1

Sherwood Park, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) continues to investigate the arson of two homes under construction in the residential subdivision of Summerwood.

On July 23, 2022, at 3:49 a.m., Strathcona Fire and RCMP responded to Sedum Way in Sherwood Park, Alta. Two homes under construction were reported on fire and with the assistance of Strathcona Fire Services, the fire was deemed suspicious.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male for Sexual Assault

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP have arrested a male following a sexual assault investigation.

On June 22, 2022, the Strathcona County RCMP received a sexual assault complaint, and police immediately started an investigation. An adult female reports she was sexually assaulted during a massage session at a local Sherwood Park message therapy business. 

John Dorion (39), a resident of Edmonton, Alta. has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

Strathcona County RCMP Crime Reduction Unit Arrest Male for Drug Offences

Strathcona County, Alta. – On Aug. 6, 2022 at approximately 1:34 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP Crime Reduction Unit attended a residence in Sherwood Park, Alta. to conducted a curfew check on a male.

The male was not at the residence and found to be breaching his curfew conditions from a previous possession of stolen property charges from June 2022.

A short time later police observed the male arriving at the residence on a motorcycle and was arrested without incident.
